My name is Jean Raymond (nee Wyper) and I remember when evacuees came to live with us. Glasgow was heavily bombed during World War II especially around the engineering works and transport links (railways and shipping) and around 1941 we had a family of evacuees to stay at our home in Galston. Mrs Lloyd, her daughter and her son Hamish and a grandson arrived by train. Mrs Lloyd's daughter travelled to work every day to Glasgow where she worked in the GPO. They stayed with us for 2-3 years until the war was nearly over. Loudoun Castle near Galston was used as a training base for Belgian soldiers during WWII.
Mock battles between the soldiers and the ARP were a great attraction for children.
