My family was in London in August 1945 when it was announced that an atomic bomb had been dropped on Hiroshima. The war in the Far East was over. There was great jubilation.Fireworks in the streets. In fact so much so that we had to return to our friends'house.
The following day was the Opening of Parliament. As we waited in The Mall it began to rain. One of the policemen lining the route asked if I would like to shelter under his cape.I had the most wonderful view.I saw Queen Mary, Winston Churchill,Montgomery and many more.Later King George,Queen Elizabeth and the two princesses appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
