Eleanor Weir is 87 years old. During World War 2 she was 23 and married. Unluckily her house was bombed. When she was a child, her mum was called Agnes Ferguson and her dad was called Huge Thomas Ferguson. She had no brothers or sisters, she was an only child. She was evacuated to a farm house with her whole family in Castlereagh but she liked her home town better. She was very lucky because she wasn鈥檛 hurt during the war. She wore an ordinary gas mask. She has no artefacts from the war. The bunker was small and she didn鈥檛 really know when the raids started and how often they came. She didn鈥檛 have any food inside the bunker because she wouldn鈥檛 eat anything inside it. She thinks the biggest air raid was on Easter Sunday. Everyone had a black out curtain because you couldn鈥檛 show a single bit of light.

As told to Kyla Smyth

Eleanor Weir was 23 when World War 2 broke out. She lived in Bloomfield Road Belfast. Eleanor was evacuated with all her family to the Castlereagh Hills. They were evacuated because of all the bombs. She did not like the people she was evacuated to because she was made to do all the house work.
Eleanor鈥檚 husband was killed in an air-raid. There were a few air-raids. The ration book was a mustard colour and when you took it into the shops to get it stamped then you got the food. Eleanor always wished that you could get an extra bit of butter.
On D-Day Eleanor and her family had a street party, they all celebrated. Eleanor will never forget that day.
Eleanor has one son called Philip. He is 25. Philip is studying in England to be a head-master. In a few months Eleanor will be 88.

As told to Grace

Eleanor Weir was 22 when World War Two started. She was evacuated to a farm house. Eleanor was not happy there. By the time she was evacuated she had married and had a son who went to Strand primary school. Eleanor lived in Ravenhill street and her house was bombed. She had a yellow ration book. She did not get pocket money. She did not have a curfew. In the bunker it smelled. The bunker was very small for ten people but it was right outside her house. When the war ended they had a party to celebrate the end of the war.
