It was a very patriotic time, I was younger than Russ. I can remember we flew our flags we would we were always very aware of the young men that were away and when they came home our street would open up and we鈥檇 be so happy.
My sister was a small child. We had to have shades so when there was a small light you couldn鈥檛 see it from the outside. They formed as junior air raid wardens and we would do little things that they needed, collect newspapers or whatever. It was a very a very patriotic time and very proud to be in the military. It was sad but we were all in this together which made it really wonderful.
