It was 1942 when we lost our home.
We were sheltering in the crypt of a church in Southwark at the time. The sirens had gone off at about 6pm and we had made our way to the Church which was about 2 miles away frome home. It was a Sunday and my Dad and I had been visiting Mum in hospital. the siren went just as we had got home so we had no time to take anything with us, just what we stood up in.
Bombs were falling all around, when the All Clear finally went, we made our way home to find just a shell of our house so we made our way to the housing shelter. The next day we contacted my sister in Braintree, who found us lodgings off Cressing Road.I've lived in Braintree ever since.
I lost a few relatives when they were killed by a direct hit on the Arches at London Bridge.
