183084 Peter James Daly shortly after receiving his commission in 1945.
My late father, Peter James Daly, joined the Royal Air Force in 1943 and was assigned to Bomber Command. His first operational squadron as a Sergeant Wirelss operator/Air Gunner was No.103 Squadron at Elsham Wolds (C Flight) where he arrived in September 1943. C flight formed the nucleus of No.576 Squadron when this was formed in November 1943. He was posted to No.460 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force at Binbrook in January 1944. He completed his first operational tour in June 1944. After screening and various courses he was commissioned and went to No.199 Squadron at North Creake in March 1945. He remained there until the close of the war in Europe and shortly after received further training before being posted to the Photographic Interpretation Section at R.A.F. Deversoir in Egypt where he worked on photo-interpretation and was Acting Station Adjutant in the rank of Flying Officer. He was eventually demobbed in October 1946 and worked in the electricity industry as an engineering draughtsman. He relinquished his commission in July 1959. My father passed away in 1984.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who served with my father or whose relatives served with him. If e-mailing me please ensure that you put "WAR SERVICE" as the title of your e-mail to ensure that my e-mail screening allows it through.
