Sweets were rationed and even though they were rationed they were not easily obtained. If we heard the local sweet shop had mars bars or milky ways in there was a queue round the block to spend your sweet coupons. Surprisingly I don鈥檛 remember missing sweets very much, even though I鈥檇 been used to them before the war. You got used to being without luxuries simply because they were not obtainable and by virtue of that you didn鈥檛 miss them, although I do remember great excitement one day when it was rumoured there were bananas at the local fruit shop, although I never saw one until after the war.
