My father was home on leave from the army. He liked to stand outside and watch the planes, rather than sit inside bored. We were all petrified about this, but he didn't seem bothered. As I sat inside, I saw a reflection in the sitting room window. It was that of a plane spirallling down in a nearby street. - Suffolk Street. It was horrible to watch, and I later found out it had landed on a row of houses, resulting in deaths. It caused alot of damage and a lady I knew was killed, and a girl had her hands blown off. I knew them as Mrs Stormant and Jean Stormant. Jean got false hands and when she left school she went to be a telephonist and managed very well.
