I was five at the time, and i have a clear memory of the incident of that day. I was stood at Drake's statue, in Tavistock and i saw all the soldiers, different nationalities, all in a mass, being given food and cups of tea. There was a feeling of disorganisation, at the time i didn't know what it was all about, but i remember seeing them all clearly and later on when it was explained to me i realised that i had seen the men returning from Dunkirk. I was appalled by everyones kindness and after that i imagine they were all taken different places. I wandered off and i suppose they were all sorted out into their different regiments. There were hundreds there, stood on peoples steps, all the people came out of their houses to help. There were vans serving the tea.
