June/July 1945
I went to a dance with pal in Elmshorn(Germany) and met two girls. We went out for about one month: the four of us. After a month my pal wasn't interested in continuing the meetings but I carried on seeing Hilda. When I was demobbed in January 1947, I applied for Hilda to come to England and she arrived in Tilbury on July 14th. I took her to meet my parents who didn't mind at all about Hilda being German, but i am afraid my neighbours weren't to keen.
Hilda and I had to marry within two months, otherwise she would have to return to Germany. We married on September 6th 1947, and were married for 42 years before she died in May 1989.
We have two children, a son named Michael and a daughter named Eyvonne. They are both bi-lingual and Michael is married to a German girl and has his own business in Germany
