The Airforce was a vital part of the war. My Grandad was in the Airforce in the Spitfire Squadron. Squadrons were assigned to different jobs. He joined in March 1942, although he did not fight these planes, he was still important, he helped fix and build planes. He served in Blackpool and many places in England, Austria, Italy and North Africa. He built and fixed many planes, these included Spitfires, Sterlings (one of the biggest bombers) and some Lancasters. He left the Airforce in 1947 and recieved a standard service medal (issued to most of the people in the war)
