I was working in Marks and Spencer's in Northumberland Street, I lived in Hunters Road Spital Tongues.
We had a street party in Dunns terrace, alongside the Spital pub. There were Union Jacks and decorations everywhere. Tables were covered with food the like of which most of us hadn't seen for ages. The weather was good, it stayed dry, I had the day off work, and like all the other mothers and children, sanf and anced the day away. There was a band playing music and we all sang along, it was a happy day after all the years of misery.
