This story has been written onto the 大象传媒 People鈥檚 War site by CSV Story gatherer Jessica on behalf of Olivia Bowman. They fully understand the terms and conditions of the site.
This is not a story but a thank you to a lovely family, who took my brother, Antony Charles Douglas Forster and I, Olivia Jane Forster (now Bowman) in as evacuees in the early 1940s from St Leonards-on-sea, Sussex.
The lovely people who took us in, Alex and Eva Craig and their two daughters Pat the youngest and Joan, of 3 Marlbourgh Road, Queens Park, Bedford, Bedfordshire.
I would just like to say a big thank you for the kindness and love that was shown to both my brother and I and also for sharing their home with us all those years ago. I kept in touch with the family or rather, I got in touch with them after many years. After coming out of the navy, my husband and I moved to Stevenage and so looked them up, from then on, we never lost touch that was in the 1960s, sadly there is only Pat left, and we talk at least once a fortnight, so as you many have gathered, the friendship has lasted many years.
To have been taken in by Alex and Eva Craig and for them to have shared their home with two very young and lost children, so far away from our mother and father and home, we once again say thank you.
Looking back I can鈥檛 think how our parents felt but it was done for our safety, so I have to say thank you to them, even though it was for Antony and I, it must have been so hard to say goodbye.
I know I would have felt terrible had we had to have done the same thing, to our son but then, one never knows what one will do, when we are called to make such decisions!
Almost forgot, my brother was five years old and I almost eight years old, just where did the years go?
Thank you for letting me write my thank you.
