Mr and Mrs Shimmin met at the training centre for the East Lancashire Regiment, And They have now been married for 62.5 years.
Mr Shimmin was in the First Battalian of the East Lancashire Regiment- a corporal in the ATS.
Mrs Shimmin was working as a cinema projectionist in Blackpool, and then went on to work in Gun sites.
In 1944, when he was 21, a hand grenade blew up in Mr Shimmins hand and he has had many skin grafts.
Mr and Mrs Shimmin married on the 19th of October 1943 and had two sons, Graham and Michael. Graham, a 'war baby' worked as an RAF pilot and has now retired, and Michael lives on the Isle of Man and works in finance.
