A few days after the Atom Bomb had been dropped my outfit and I embarked from Liverpool bound for the Far East but not to face the Japanese as enemies — but Prisoners of War.
When we arrived in Burma the Japanese were busy making bamboo beds for the Allied Troops and generally being subservient.
There’s a sequel to this story and it is a very sobering one — had the atom bombs not been dropped there would have been catastrophic casualties amongst the allied troops — hundreds and thousands of deaths and injuries as they tried to over come the enemy, mainly by sea born landings.
Maybe I wouldn’t have been here to tell this story???
