I didn't really notice any shortages.
We had lots of vegetables.
We didn't get an egg very often — one every 4 to 5 weeks.
I went home to Belfast on leave one time and was given half a dozen eggs to take back.
Dried egg scrambled was alright if you knew how to cook it.
I liked spam fritters and chips — it was a favourite meal.
I had never been a sweet eater so I didn't really miss them.
When I was in Kent and a nurse at the hospital, there was one time when a vicar searched amongst the rubble for the false teeth. He managed to find them and brought when back to the patients.
