Background to story: Army

This story has been submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer from CSV / 大象传媒 Radio Nottingham on behalf of Harold Poisworda and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I was at school when war broke out and went into the Army in 1944. I was trained in Lincoln and then in Prestatyn.
My first posting was to Markswood inside Southampton Docks. Here I was stacking pontoon bridges and other things.
In 1945 I was moved to a prisoner of war camp in Bourton - on - the - Water, near Moreton - on - the - Marsh. I looked after the German prisoners of war. They were treated fair and we never had no complaints.
I stayed here until the end of the war
