I was 5 or 6 years old when the war started and my family owned Alton Garage and Alton Nurseries.

I rememeber seeing barrage balloons in the local parks which hindered aircrafts, the low flyers. Blackout curtains, cars had shutters on the headlights.

During the war we receieved a letter from the King thanking us for our contribution.
