Served on tribal class destroyer 'Tartar.'
Joined in July 1943, served for 16 1/2 years.
Hit two days after D Day.
Visited Canada when he was 70. Under the Lottery was given a chance to go where ever he wanted. Decided to visit Canada.
He was a gunner - ten on the one gun.
He was awarded the Burma Star. After D Day went to Burma and witnessed the 'surrender of Singapore' by Japanese.
Being a prisoner of war made an everlasting impression, he was only 18, and when the ship got hit, wondered if we would survive. Although hitting a smoke screen enabled them to get back to Plymouth.
