When war was declared; my baby girl was only 10 days old — I traveled to Britain with her and my husband. Sold house move on to mother. Husband was a docker on the waterways. Therefore, we all traveled to Scotland, Yorkshire, and Norfolk Broads — while my husband worked on means of stopping planes landing to make safe areas, I worked on a farm and cooked for five persons.

Bombed before left home; dodged bombs a while. Bomb shelter built and slept in a home made hammock. Laugh when had to remove corsets before could get into shelter. Used cash from house sale to travel.

While in Cornwall husband was secretly sent to France on secret missions. When husband was demobbed from army ‘Land Water Transport’ we moved back to Grays.
