Joan has a vivid memory of being out in the school playground at Trinity School in Bradford on Avon one day when, "in broad daylight", two bombers flew directly overhead. She can remember "red in the sky" from the bombs dropping on Bath. She tells me that food was stored in underground passages at Monkton Farleigh and people wondered if that was also a target.

I am a regular contributor to this website, giving memories of wartime Trowbridge, and have just read your article on Bradford on Avon. I always like to reply to any memories of particular interest - especially if local, and the researchers encourage this - it is good to compare stories. One of my most vivid memories which would have also have been in your area was when the Kennet & Avon Canal was emptied by a bomb between Widbrook and The Beehive. As children we stayed out quite late looking at the scene and met my mum coming to look for us - she was not happy!
