This contribution to People鈥檚 War was received by the Action Desk at 大象传媒 Radio Norfolk and submitted to the website with the permission and on behalf of Mrs Dorothy Webb
鈥淚 lived at Swaffham in a two up two down cottage in Ash Close. Before war broke out the territorial army came around and insisted that I billet two men in our tiny cottage. They had to sleep on a small bed together and we had to feed them. I had a month old baby and was very upset and could do nothing about it. The men were with me for three months. They were nice men and local.鈥
鈥淲hen we took the men into our house we were given a leaflet with the guidelines as to how to look after them, the quantity of meat to give them and so on. However, these leaflets were printed for the 1stWorld War they even contained instructions on how much hay to feed the 1st World War cavalry horses !!鈥
