As the sky lit up all around us as we were in our shelter waiting for the "all clear". Mum started to have terrible tummy pains.Dad told me to ron and fetch Mrs Fairbrother from her shelter and to tell her Mum was in Labour.
After Mras Fairbrother arived thing began to hot up. I knew Mum was about to have my new sister or brother.Looking back things must have been very primitive, but after a lot of shouting and hard work my little stster Pansy was born at a quarter to three in the morning.
I look back on that night many times and wonder just how we all managed with the new things they have today when people have babies. But one thing stands out in my mind although it was hard at the time it was a wonderful night and one that changed my life. I now realise what simple pleasures in life are and its not what you have in terms of wealth and material things. but the love and help of friends and neighbours that count.
We called Pansy Pansy because they were Mums favourite floweres and because although they are small and pretty they are strong little flowere just like her.
