Sept 7th is my birthday and I would not be having a party as my father had died , my mother was only 30years old the same age as my father was when he died .He left 5 children when war was declared my mother let my older sister myself and my younger brother be evacuees. We went to Monmouth in Wales my brother who was 8 went first then 5 girls including my sister and myself went to a guest house. We stayed one night and decided to run away, as my brother would be going to church we would wait for him to tell him that we were going. Next day the police found us and returned us back to police station then the three of us were sent to a house but after a week we were moved, as the lady of the house was having too many visitors. So we were sent to a convent it was a very hard life as we would get up early in the morning to go to mass, then we would have breakfast thick porridge with salt not sugar. Then we would have to walk to school a very long way. After a few weeks my sister went home I stayed but after a few months I became ill so my mother had a telegram. She took me home because of the bombing we went to droitwich and stayed with a Mr & Mrs Bell who were very kind to me. But had a long walk to school so Mrs Bell asked the nun who was my teacher to give me a lift as she lived up some drive, but instead she moved me to another house, with no electric just an oil lamp and candles. I had to sleep with two boys when I complained I was moved to a Mrs Thomas ,who was 70years old with a daughter who lived with her. I had to sleep on a camp bed with no sheets just a blanket so I moved again to a Mr & Mrs Lloyd. This was a lot better because I had my own bedroom i was there for 18months but wanted to go home as soon as possible so my mother came and took me home,
