This story was submitted to the WW2 People鈥檚 War Website by the London Borough of Harrow Housebound Library Service on behalf of Mrs Lilian Walker, and has been added with her permission.

A friend living in Wembley whose husband had been conscripted into the Forces decided she would take their baby girl the next day to live with her parents. That night there was an air raid and she took her baby to shelter in the pantry, thinking that was the safest place. But the blast from a bomb blew off the pantry door, which killed her. The baby was found safe the next day.
