The V.E.Party

Pictures taken at the back of Rosary Road and St. Thomas Road in Erdington (Nr Slade Road School) in those days Birmingham 23. It is the V.E. Celebration at the end of the second world war in May 1945 where all the parents gave whatever food they could and managed to give a party to the children of the area. I myself was at work during the day the photos were taken (I was nearly 15 years old) but I was told it was a great occasion. On No 2 Photograph my brother — Keith Woodward is on the extreme right hand bottom of the picture (12 years of age then) and Bobby Hilstead standing behind him. His mother (Mrs Hilstead is to the right of my brother). The daddy holding the baby girl is Mrs. Rushton (our next door neighbour) who lived at No. 7 St. Thomas road and her son John is the lad who has got his mouth open and his hand on the table.
