I was eight years old in 1941 and living in Dartford, Kent. After being bombed out we moved to a semi-detached house in Chastilian Road, near Dartford Heath.
One morning on the heath we found bushes covered with thin strips of silver dropped by German planes and collected it up, as we did with anything interesting such as aeroplane bits. I tried to make paper chains with it at Christmas but it didn't stick very well.
Years later I found the foils were called 'windows, and it was an anti-radar invention which our 'planes used over Germany.
