My father (born July 1930) spent all of his school days in a boarding school in Herts. One day a bomb landed on their playing field and they all ran out to look into the hole, picking up bits of metal and rocks that had been dislodged. One of the teachers called them in for lunch or classes and later when it was over they ran back out towards the hole only for it to explode as they were half way across the playing field - no one was hurt!
