When I was growing up in Blackburn, we used to have happy times playing - even though there was a war on.

Food was rationed, but mum always managed to make good wholesome meals.

Cinemas ... Blackburn had lots ... the centre alone had seven!

Family and neighbours all helped one another. If someone had a bit of something special which was rare, then we shared what we had. I went to school ... Park Road Primary and Audley Secondary Modern and I have good memories of these years.

Message 1 - Good, Wholesome meals

大象传媒 Centre, Lancashire,
Please say 'thank you' to John Shaw for his story. It was good to know he enjoyed some of the time during the war. I empathize with him on rationing, cinemas and school. My own story of growing up in the war details some of my experiences. John Shaw may like to read them - set in Yorkshire. Perhaps it may prompt him to remember more about his own growing up in war time.
