There was an ammunition train down at Liverpool Docks and because of the heavy bombing they were worried it may be hit so they moved it out to a siding very close to the Pinehurst estate thinking it would be safe from the bombs there. I lived on the Pinehurst Estate and the night it was there it was heavily bombed. All the roof tiles were blown off all the houses on the estate front and back doors were blown in and all the windows were blown in with one exception. At that time I was eight years old and I had scarlet fever. I was very ill and I should have been in hospital but the hospitals were full with wounded servicemen and people who had been injured during the bombings so there was no room for me. My mother brought my bed down into the living room underneath our big window and she would stick the dining table over my bed of a night to protect me from glass and falling debris. Every window in our house and every window in our road had blown in except the big window where I slept. The ammunition train continued to burn for a long time after the bombs dropped. In the morning all the houses and trees were covered in gun cotton from the train, it looked like snow at Christmas. The bombing had knocked off all the gas in our street
