Dennis who is a Palatine High School old boy attended the school when it was a technical college in 1939,served with the Ninth Royal Tank regiment in Normandy. He landed in Normandy on the 18 of june 1944 and served until near Lisieux he was injured on the 22nd of Augest 1944 and was eventually evacuated from Normandy on 29th of june to a hospital near South hampton there he was put on a train and shipped to Manchster Royal Infirmery and was in hospital until his discharge in April 1945 he had his 19th birthday on 2 October 1944 in hospital .
He was wounded in battle on his right arm and leg. 14 of his friends were also wounded at the same time!. H e then traveled to Withington Hospital also in the manchester area.
From there he traveld home and had to move around on crutches. Eventually he was able to return back to work and he did that until the 1950's before going to live in west africa for 21 years!.
he met his wife in africa and had 2 children there and to this day his son has never attended a school in this country.after he left africa he returned back to england and bought a house in the clevleys area and he still lives there today.
Dennis lost his brother in the war who was a wireless plane operator. his brother was shot down in action and never found. Later this year in june Dennis has arranged for a group of Vetrans to meet in Kent to have a reunion weekend for his regiment.Dennis will also be taking place in VE day celibrations in Blackpool
