John Prentice - 3rd Battalion Scots Guards - Killed in Action 30 July 1944

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to find out if anyone knows of anyone who served with my partners Grandfather, John Paterson Prentice, who was killed in action on the Right Flank of the Battle of Caumont on 30 July 44.
He was with the 3rd Battalion Scots Guards and had only been in France for 10 days when he was killed.
Johns daughter, Helen, now a Grandmother, last remembered him picking her up and sitting her on the mantlepiece in Lanark as a little girl.
We would love to find further details on his job (Probably on Churchill Tanks), any mates he was with or who may have known him, or any photos of the Scots Guards in France.
I have enclosed the only photograph of him known to exist.
Really hope someone can help.

Best Regards

Mark

Hi Mark
I just spoke to my Dad. He was in the left flank and then ended up in S squdron. John's name did not ring a bell however I'll print off a picture and show it to him later this week. Dad has never been talkative about the war untill I mentioned this site and your request. Hopefully he is able to open up a bit and I can maybe shed some light?
Good luck I'll let you know what I find out.
Andrew.

Hi Mark.
Dad does not recall Mr Prentice.
Dad was all of 17/18 years old and John would have been "an old guy" compared to Dad. As you can see by the numbers they were very close and I'm sure they must have rubbed elbows in some line up somehwere. Good luck.
Keep in touch if you like.
Andy.
