Having spent three years in Oxford and then returned to Dagenham we (my sister Barbara and 1 sister) were sent off to Leamington Spa where my Auntie Doreen was matron of a waifs and strays home(all girls!). Whilst we were at the back of the building we were caught in the front of the house jumping from bed to bed in the girls bedroom! Sister Bailey caught us and we were sent to the under 5's dormitary! At one time we had Mumps and were in a rear, isolated bedroom with a sheet over the door space which had been soaked in some kind of fluid. This didn't stop the girls from peeping round the sheet etc!

At Christmas we were allowed to come down the main staircase(normally resticted to my aunt). It had a huge banister and sliding down it from top to bottom was a great thrill and great risk! In the large garden there were lots of trees, quite a few were fruit trees and to knock some off the apples and stand behind the tree eating them was another little scheme we enjoyed.

Now being married with three daughters and one son, it brings back memories of being in a minority but enjoying it!
