Story recorded by Charles Dinsdale at ´óÏó´«Ã½ Open Centre on 10/6/2005

I suppose like anyone else during the war, after the raid, my Mum and me used to go and look at the bomb damage. Even to the point we used to walk from Cecil Street and catch the tram into town, stopping at the terminus in Paragon Street at the back of the City Hall. I remember on one occasion we went out after the bombing and went down Cambell Street, several of the houses in the area had been damaged. But what sticks in my mind was looking at the spire of the church and seeing a most horrible sight, that of a female torso that they couldn’t get down or cover up, the sight sticks in my mind — most gruesome.
