My mum said we was going to be evacuated and my sister Pearl, who was about nine came so she could look after me - I was six and a half. She packed me clothes and the gas mask and we had to meet at St Mary's school, Dover Road, Folkestone. You had your nametag on you. They took us by bus to the station and we caught the train to Wales. We went into a big hall. I think the place was called Landgibby. They come along and told us who to go with. I was split up from my sister. I didn't do too bad, the people I was with.
I was excited on the train; I had my sister with me. I didn't know what was going on or that we were going away for a couple of years!
