We begun at Devonport on landing craft waiting for the seas to calm down a bit before we set off for Channel. We were heading for Gold Beach and the first lot we took ashore were the royal enginers? who cleared the area from all the mines and obstructions. then we started taking supplys ashore and then the ducks arrived. we sat up a camp nearby. the 41st royal marine commandos then loaded off and we headed for Bay u tapestry in the cathedral but it wasn't there. for some unknown reason i was sent back to base and from there i got sent bak to Devonport . they put us on a train in the baggage area in our soaking wet uniforms. one of the chaps brought back tea for us and took us out of the baggage and into one of the carriges. When we got there at Odyssey we met many soldiers and i ended up staying there for 2 months until i was ready to go abroad again to fight. after i went to Australia and on the 13th Feb 1946 i came back to England and had found out the war had finished. i got married to the raf cook in April 1947 at the same time as the Queen.

P.S i was invited to the Queens 50th wedding anniversary to celebrate.

This is a Royal Marine story. To the best of his memory!
