This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War website by Edward Hallifax, of Canterbury Christ Church University, on behalf of Tony Sullivan and has been added to the site with his permission. Mr. Sullivan fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.

It was about 1943 and I was roughly 5 years old. I was sitting by the window in my house with my nose pressed up against the glass staring out into the road.

Suddenly I heard a distant blast and a few moments later I was blown back from the window and landed in the middle of the lounge.

The blast wave from the bomb had thrown me away from the window but the glass itself had not broken. I was very scared and a bit bruised but it could have been a lot worse.
