Part 9
Another funny story was the fire engines they had in those days some of them were self-propelled ones and they weren鈥檛 like the fire engines of today large and enclosed, the firemen had to hang on the outsides of them, so when the alarm bells went and they came down the pole all their clothing was usually put in a line and all they had to do was jump into it, the leggings were draped over and the boots that they wore and everything was all ready to put on. On this one particular night a friend of ours, he was a regular fireman and he decided to have a bath although he was on duty and he was in the middle of having this bath when the bells went down, he had to leap out of the bath without drying himself and one of his friends grabbed all of his equipment his boots, leggings and put it on the fire engine, and he had to leap on the fire engine completely naked and go along the road getting dressed in full view of everybody that was there but as everybody was fully occupied because there was a raid on nobody seemed to notice, but I don鈥檛 think it would be allowed these days for a naked fireman to get dressed on a fire engine, in any case I think they鈥檙e covered in these days so it wouldn鈥檛 have been all that cold for him.
