A drawing by Martin William Farrow, drawn when he was an officer in Burma.

My husband was in the TA and was sent to Burma in the Suffolk Regiment around 19.

He was an officer’s batman (servant), and he told the officer that he liked painting. So the officer gave him a piece of paper and said ‘here you are, he’s not happy unless he’s drawing’. He was one of the few who went swimming in Burma.

On a train in India or Burma he was travelling on the train and he saw an advert for Chivers Jam Factory in Histon!!
