In 1939 I moved up into the senior girls school , we was given a letter for us to give to our parents informing them of evacuation of schools . This took place on the 30th of August . We was dispatched to Aston station put on a train not knowing where we was going . When we arrived with AshbyDelarzoch where we was taken to a village hall where a group of ladies choose the children that they wanted . We was given a bag which contain chocolate biscuits , canned meat and canned meat which we never got to see again. Mr and Mrs lovell were kind but you could tell they never really wanted us , 3 months later our Father came to fetch us home . He needed to sign a agreement to say that he was responsible for taking us home . Where we lived was surronded by factories and enganged with war work so we was a target for bombing . This started in September 1940 and the night I am talking about occured at the beginning of November . My father had a thing about the airraid shelters being unhealthy so he fetched us up during a lull in the raid , unfortunatly the bomers dropped a land mine two streets away and the blast effected our house , it blew the windows in and the door off and the house shook . We had quite a good fire which was made worse with the soot that fell through the chimney . The lights went out and it was very upsetting . We eventually got back down to the shelter after the all clear we returned to the house. My Dad said we should try to get a couple of hours sleep, my sister and I went to our bedroom only to have a beam fall through the ceiling straight in front of the door . Eventually after my Dad and I both pushing we managed to get out. We got into my Mum and Dad's bed we heard a almighty crash on the stairs , the stair case ceiling had fallen in . The next morning we was dispatched to my aunt's which was in Erdington . We lived with various reletives until we got a house back in Aston .Just before Christmas in 1940 I was in the house alone and a neighboor came over to fetch me because he didn't think I should be on my own during a raid , while we was crossing the road, we saw a german bomer and my neighboor shouted get down the bomer started shooting bullets in front of us , we was relived when we finnaly arrived at the house. We had been there three weeks when once again we was homeless a bomb had dropped out side the house taking the roof of the house and part of the kitchen and back bedroom . Luckily the goverment stepped in and effected the repairs straight away . But we still had to find somewhere to live , again our schooling suffered .
