I was a dancer at the Drury Lane Theatre. All the stars had to do a compulsory six weeks with ENSA, and so I went to entertain at Forces Camps, munition works, and to the miners. I can remember being in a mining village in the Rhonda Valley.
I met my husband in Leicester square. He was with the 8th Air Corps, and I went over to the States on a GI Bride ship. There were six hundred brides, and two hundred and fifty children on the boat. We didn鈥檛 have cabins, just bunks to sleep in We were on the ship for five days before we reached New York. When we came into the harbour, they played 鈥淗ere comes the brides鈥. We had to stay on the boat until your husband came to collect you. I had to stay two days at Central Station with a label on me. The Red Cross workers looked after us, and put me on the train to Buffalo.
