I have a vivd recollection - my father was calling me to my bedroom window, where the distant night sky was hugely aglow and his stranged voice saying "that my sweet, is London burning". So this was the start of the "Blitz". Sirens, Air raids, nights and some days in Anderson shelters with the feel of the ground shuddering as bombs dropped around us. We were lucky enough to have my Grandparents living next door to us. My Grandfather always reassuring us saying "Never mind peach, its all good fun". In the first world war he was on the river Marne and involved in the battle of Arras where he won the Millitary Cross.
