Edith (Maude) Burt life in Ilfracombe in the ATS
I am writing this about my Nan and granddad time in the war.
My Nan was Edith Maude Burt born buckfastleigh 22/09/1921 she join the ATS and was sent to Ilfracombe for the war. Her number was W/164915 I believe she stayed here all the way though the war where she meet her husband they did not married until years later.
My granddad was born in Ilfracombe 17/12/1925 he was of a large family and it was his mum鈥檚 second marriage as her first husband died in the first war. He was called Ira James Yeo, he was 14 years old when war started I believe you could not join the army unstill 17. So in 1943 he went to York to join. My family have his service book and only service 135 days because he creased to for full army physical requirements, he did say to us it was because of his ears. He then becomes a fish man.
