I was born in 1938 and my first wartime memory was receiving a clicker type gun from my Uncle. I can only see his big Firemans boots and remember being scared of the gun. It must have been before Christmas 1940 because he was killed on duty with the fire service during the Manchester Blitx 2 days before Christmas 1940 in Trafford Park.

My 2nd memory was VE day when my grandmother made me a siren suit out of Union Flags to go to the street party.I must have looked a real sight.

My last memory was the day my Father came home from the Far East in 1946. it was the day I had my first bannana and the day before I went into hospital with scarlet fever. That was MY childhood memory.
