This is to varify that Mr Paul Ridyard with permission of Stuart Pearson has writen this story on the 大象传媒 People's War website knowing the terms and pollicy of the site.
It was at Egerton, just outside Bolton, around 1941-42. We had two land mines drop, one exploded and another landed in a field the far side of Delph reservior. The authorities closed off the area and bomb disposal came and defused it.
We, as local kids, knew all the streams and surrounding countryside, we approached quite close to the site. Our aim was to get a piece of shrapnel, parashute or cords.
Unfortunately, they difused it, so we couldn't get any souvenirs. But, at least we were safe of a UXB and a big bang.
Up Blackburn Rd, where the bus terminates at Dimple, is a bistro. It was a pub called King William V during the war, it was originally a farm before.
I remember a German bomber ditching his bomb load to escape fighters. One bomb demolished the barn behind pub. There were 11 bombs going off all at once. This was at night and it was morning before we knew what had happened.
