My most unforgettable memory was being detoured from West Africa to Singapore to pick up THE VERY FIRST prisoners of war.
Our fellow men, standing, being held up, falling down, lying down because they couldn鈥檛 stand. I have never seen human beings in such a state, flesh just hanging over bone, many with torture marks and many with fingers missing.
Were they pleased to see us, some cried, some flung their arms around us, some just stared and stared, some shuffled and rambled. I shall live with that for ever.
Our food was poor, but they couldn鈥檛 eat even the basics, anything other than rice they were sick.
