It was 11.00am - I was sitting with my feet on the chair - using the iron tongs to curl my hair. The wireless was on and we all heard the broadcast telling us that war had been declared. Mum started to cry - I had three brothers of an age to be called-up. We all asked what it meant - would we be bombed ?
Life was never the same after this. My Dad worked on the railway.so he was exempt. I also started to cry quietly - thinking of all my boyfriends having to volunteer.
