During the war I was in Yorkshire, West Riding. We would practise using the air raid shelters but never had a raid and I then went to college on the Ilkley Moors where again we never had any raids and I was one of those who did fire watching duty regularly . Nothing dreadful happened, Bingley (college) was full of girls because it was a safe place. We all lived in in those days, everybody lived in in college. There were 2 colleges on our site and we had to double up in rooms and there were two other buildings taken over in two other colleges, so Bingley was full of girls and we never saw a man. The men had gone to war. Very different picture to today鈥檚 world.
There, that was my experience.
