The following words were penned to our Mother from a couple maybe in France or Belgium on the 30/10/1944
Madam,
'I take the liberty of penning you these few words, to express the joy we have had in having your husband with us.
It was unfornunately but for a few hours, yet it was sufficient to form a friendship which I sincerely hope will be long lived. I hope that the turmoil of strife that we are passing through will rapidly be drawn to a close, and, that peace will reign over the world again.
Maybe, then, my wife and I will have the pleasure of making your aquaintance and, be able to celebrate in complete happiness the end of this nightmare victoriously won by our valliant liberators'.
Louis and Arille
We found this letter amounst some of the few reminders we now have of our parents.
We don't know any details other than what you can read in the script. What did our father do or say to create such an impression in such a short time? That is a question to which we will never know the answer. It is only a short letter but it says so much about the horrors and sadness that people endured during the war years. We were lucky that our Father survived the War and are proud of whatever part he had to play during that dreadful conflict.
