Stanley Lakin from his 'soldiers service and Pay book'

This story was submitted by a pupil at Ashby de la Zouch Church of England Primary School. -My Grandad (Stanley Lakin) was working in Africa as a peace maker as the fierce fighting had mainly finished; but he was making sure that there were no small riots. He was also a messenger and was allowed longer holidays where he was working! He was in the Royal Signals. My Grandad (Stanley Lakin) was a lot luckier than my other Grandad (Sidney Raymond Starkey).Sidney my Grandad - worked in a telephone hut which the Germans would try to bomb to cut off the communication and connections.
